UMA

Unified Memory Architecture

Overview:The O2 workstation is based on an innovative Unified Memory Architecture (UMA). UMA defines a computer architecture in which all memory resides in one location and all engines share that memory. Each of the O2's specialized engines (CPU, graphics, imaging, compression, & I/O) has equal access to the 2.1 GB/second unified main memory system.

UMA enables the O2 workstation to provide the following features:

  • High performance, hardware accelerated texture mapping.
  • Live or stored video treated as textures which can combined with other graphics and images.
  • Hardware-accelerated image processing.
  • Image, video and graphics data in memory is equally accessible by all system resources, minimizing the bandwidth required to move the data around the system.
